The Gold Card from American Express is a card that doesn’t get a lot of publicity, but there are a couple of really lucrative key selling points that make this card very attractive
Table of Contents
AMEX Gold Card Welcome Bonus
The sign-up bonus is currently 35,000 points after you spend $2,000 in your first three months of card membership. But keep in mind that with this program you’re going to earn Membership Rewards points. These are similar to what you’ll get over with the Chase Ultimate Rewards points, in which it’s a transferable point. You can take these membership reward points, and you can transfer them to a variety of airline and hotel partners, which really increases the flexibility and the value of them.
The annual fee on this card is $250, which at the end of the day is about the middle range between one of the mid-tier cards and one of the high tier cards.
American Express Gold Card Perks & Benefits
For starters, you get a ten dollar credit every month to spend on different food delivery services. Most notably, you get Grub Hub and Seamless. So, if you’re living in a big city that actually has either of those, that’s an effortless way to get a hundred and twenty dollars of value every single year.
If you’d rather dine out, there are several options where you can also rack up these points: Shake Shack, The Cheesecake Factory, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
Another thing that American Express loves to do on their credit cards is to give you flight vouchers. The American Express Gold gives you a $100 flight voucher that you’re able to use every year. This is an easy way to build value, and we’re already at $220 out of a $250 annual fee.
Amex Reward Points
You’re going to be earning four points per dollar spent on dining at US restaurants and shopping at Us supermarkets. This is capped at $25,000 in purchases per year. On top of that, you will earn 3X points back on flights booked on amextravel.com or directly with airlines.
Amex Gold Payment Flexibility
Amex is known to be a credit card which on which you pay the total balance each month. However, the American Express Gold Card allows you to carry a balance with interest. The purchases must be eligible and over $100, and once the payment is due you can choose to pay fully, pay the minimum due, or pay any amount in between.

Who is the American Express Gold Card recommended for?
If you’re looking at something like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and you’re maybe between a middle tier or one of the high tier cards and you’re looking for a middle ground, this is a pretty good card. We already talked about the ten dollars monthly credit that you’re going to get for food spending. That’s $120 a year. You got the $100 flight credit with the sign-up bonus and the 20% cashback bonus that you’ll get on restaurant spending, so this card seems to pay for itself in a lot of different ways.
